FAMILY STORIES

Our story begins in at the end of the 30-Year's war (1648).

The 18th century in northern Europe was a time of turmoil and change. This was the age of Enlightenment, the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the golden age of English and French colonialism, and the century that witnessed both the American War for Independence, the French Revolution.

In central Europe, Frederick the Great ruled Prussia benefiting from the dynastic rivalries between the Hapsburgs and Hohenzollerns. By the end of the 18th century, Poland had disappeared as Prussia and Russia expanded. The sillouettes are of Albert Vagt/Voget (1728-1801) and Albertine Theodora Voget (1730-1813).
